SPI Investigation Case Ranking: C+
During November, 2009, a Connecticut Paranormal Group contacted SPI Director Jeff Messenger, regarding a case they were too busy to take on at that time. It came with some rather bizarre accounts.
A young couple and their son moved into a recently refurbished home, converted into several modern apartments. Unannounced to the family, however, the previous tenant of their abode was a practitioner of the occultic arts. He apparently performed conjuring rituals, within a small room which eventually became the bedroom of a nine year old boy.
The family started to experience odd phenomena right after moving in. Knocks, taps, and rubbing sounds were heard throughout the apartment at night. During one particular evening, the man of the household reported that a loud noise occurred in the living room... much like the sound of a heavy weight dropping.
On one occasion, a crow flew into their window. Not an unusual occurrence to be sure, but the force of the collision was evidenced by blood and feathers. Then a more bizarre event occurred... the family witnessed a crow being electrocuted by a live wire near the house.
These morbid scenes may had been merely incidental, but a more bizarre event was in store. The man of the house noticed a small black crab scurry across their bedroom floor. He tacked the odd critter into his closet, but couldn't find it. Yet later, the crab made a repeat appearance in the kitchen. The family eventually trapped the crab under a pot, and rid themselves of the intruder.
The nine year old boy reported that an unseen hand grabbed him, while playing in his bedroom. The noises became increasingly frequent. The family had seen and heard enough. They immediately vacated the apartment, and moved in with a relative.
It's at this time that SPI was invited to investigate the apartment.
The first visit was uneventful for five hours... up until around 3:00 AM in the morning. That's when sounds started to be noticed as coming from the kitchen. Keep in mind, this was an unusually quiet apartment, lacking those old house creaks and rattling pipes that many of us know so well. We had experienced five hours of relative silence, except for the scurrying of one solitary mouse. Yet come 3 AM, a sound like a plastic cup falling, and metallic clanks were heard.
As Jeff, Scott and Dan entered the kitchen to investigate, nothing seemed out of place. As the 3 investigators talked, a loud, breathy growl- snarl- hiss sound came from a wall, bordering the "conjuring" room. The snarl was caught on audio, but it seemed quieter on the recording than what the investigators had remembered.
Upon reviewing the video footage, a dim, odd, guttural voice was noted. Upon enhancing the audio, this is what Jeff uncovered:
"Growl ... You're mine... growl... get outta the kitchen, c***sucker."
A small, mist- like anomaly also flew through the kitchen around this time, as investigator Scott Messenger walked in the background. (See SPI Videos page)
The rest of the investigation featured metallic noises and knocks (in a series of 3), up until the team wrapped up around 5 AM. The apartment thermostat indicated that the temperature was around 62 degrees, yet the investigators all felt a penetrating chill.
Before SPI had a chance to present the clients with the evidence they collected, the family found a way to get out of their rental contract. SPI didn't encourage this action, but did understand the reasons. The apartment was rented out to new tenants, who understood the "haunted" reputation this place had but weren't frightened buy it.
The second visit SPI conducted also included investigator Chris Daddio, who brought his Flir thermal camera. No temperature anomalies were noted. A recording of an Orthodox Church Service was played, as a mild form of "religious provocation," but nothing unusual happened. But as investigators left for the basement, the empty kitchen did feature some odd noises in their absence. One noise sounds like a cabinet door opening and shutting, with a subtle "bounce back" noted.
SPI believes this to be a potentially dangerous haunt, due to the 3 AM correlation to the phenomena. In terms of Christian Demonology, demonic entities often do things in series of 3, as a mockery of the Trinity. 3 AM is also the inverse of 3 PM, the hour of Jesus' redemptive death on the cross.
Demonic entities also manifest with animalistic growls and snarls, and are profane.
Thankfully, this demonic "infestation" seems to be at a mild level. The new tenants may not experience the same phenomena, since each haunt is theoretically a symbiotic experience involving both spirit and client. If the haunt does continue, SPI hopes the infestation will not progress to more dire activity, as is so often the case.
As of the writing of this report, the clients have not experienced any more paranormal phenomena. It has not followed them.
