Shekinah's Investigations of Haunted, New England Inns

January, 2007: The Yankee Pedlar Inn, Torrington, CT.

Investigators: Mark Oneto, Linda Sileo, Deb Rosiello, Jeff Messenger, Luke Edwards, Jay Deleppo.

SPI Investigation Case Ranking: D+

On a cold and snowy night, the Shekinah team rented the former room of the Yankee Pedlar Inn proprietors, "The Connelys."

While the team were seated and socializing, the door to the coat closet popped open repeatedly. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the door didn't close securely. Also a certain floorboard, when weight is applied to it, causes the door to open. Although the team were seated while the door opened twice, the mere fact that the door doesn't close securely is enough to erase any potential paranormal interpretation.

While visiting the unoccupied Pub, various floorboard creaks were noted. Were these caused by temperature fluctuations?

Various orb anomalies were recorded throughout the Inn, most of which were probably caused by natural, airborne particles. One orb anomaly in particular performed a sharp, right angle turn...an unusual maneuver for naturally floating particles.

While the team sat in the attic and conversed quietly, an odd sound was caught on hi-8mm videotape. It was a high pitched "...Hmmm...Hmmm." Possibly female. The unusual volume and tone of this sound didn't fit into the conversation, nor did it sound like any of the investigators. For now, the sound remains an unknown.

Mark and Linda slept during the early morning hours, and reported a slight shaking of the bed in Connely's room. Video cameras confirm that both investigators were still during the event in question.

Investigators Luke Edwards and Jay Deleppo would record a mysterious EVP in the Inn's lobby about two weeks later. It is a definite female voice, although no females were present at the time. This EVP is featured on this website.

The Yankee Pedlar remains a source of intrigue. Any paranormal activity present does not seem overtly hostile or frightening. For a historic, beautiful, and fascinating experience, be sure to vacation at the Yankee Pedlar Inn!

February, 2007. Captain Grants Inn, Poquetanuck, CT.

Investigators: Mark Oneto, Linda Sileo, Deb Rosiello, Dawn Rosiello, Jeff Messenger

SPI Investigation Case Ranking: D

Captain Grant's Inn was built in 1754 for his wife, Mercy Adelaide Avery. Although a young Captain Grant died at sea, Mercy lived within the Inn for the rest of her life, as did 3 successive generations of Grants. The home was a Garrison during the Revolutionary War, and housed runaway slaves during the Civil War. During the mid 1990s, the house was restored and is now listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

Each room has a gas fireplace, providing a warm and cozy environment.

Mark and Linda rented the "Adelaide room," reported to be one of the most paranormally active rooms in the house.

On hi-8 film, a faint, possibly child like voice was recorded in the late evening. It sounds like it says "...I love you."

As Mark and Linda keep vigil in the Adelaide room, Linda reported that she "...saw something" near the bathroom and the camcorder on tripod. A few seconds afterward, an anomaly flew by the camcorder...looking like a small ribbon. It is probable this anomaly was a long piece of lint, floating close to the camera.

During the early morning hours, while Mark and Linda were asleep, 5 distinctive knocks sounded within the Adelaide room. Did Mark make the knocking sound in his sleep, or was it of paranormal origin?

Any possible haunting activity within this Bed and Breakfast seems benign, possibly friendly. For a wonderful place to stay, within a few miles of historic sites, Indian reservations, and Casinos, choose Captain Grant's.
