When WCCC Digital Media Coordinator Carissa Lozinski asked her friend, psychic Crystal Pavis, if she would do an investigative walk through at the WCCC station, Crystal agreed. Having met Jeff Messenger on a ghost investigation one year prior, Crystal graciously invited Jeff to join her on the investigation.

WCCC is located in Hartford's historic Spencer House, built in 1929 for Alfred Spencer Jr, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Hartford National Bank and Trust Company. During the early years, it is believed that this georgian revival house hosted many social events. In 1959, the house was altered to accomidate medical offices. In 1979, further alterations would turn the home into a prominent radio station.

Through the years, radio workers affectionately refer to the house as "The Asylum." Inside, offices, conference rooms, and studios create a labyrinth that can be confusing for first time visitors.

Haunting phenomena reported inside the house involve the hearing of disembodied voices (that are not involved with radio broadcasts), and various psychokinetic happenings. A file cabinet was witnessed as opening on it's own, as well as a chair being moved by an unseen force. WCCC has conducted on air ouija board sessions (SPI warns against this practice)  around Halloween time, and have consulted various psychics. Some at the station believe an entity named "Edwin" haunts the home, and the WCCC website has a special page they have titled "Edwin?"

When Jeff was first invited to join the investigation, he was skeptical. High electromagnetic fields (such as what would be found within a radio station) can potentially alter perception, or make people feel on edge (although this widely accepted theory is unsupported by any peer reviewed, scientific study at this time). The general atmosphere of a radio station can lend itself to "spooky stories," considering the Halloween fun broadcasts often utilize.

During the three hour investigation, Jeff set up two stationary camcorders... one inside a storeroom, and another pointed at the file cabinet that reportedly was opened by unseen hands. As Carissa demonstrated to Jeff, this particular file cabinet opens with some difficulty. Jeff utilized a handheld camcorder,  as he followed Crystal and filmed her observations and impressions.

On the third floor, by a bathroom, Crystal reportedly sensed an entity she called "Jacob." Jacob was bad tempered and foul mouthed. Jacob didn't like Jeff, or men in general, so Jeff left Crystal alone for several minutes as she communicated with Jacob (Jeff was careful to keep within earshot). Crystal later reported an uncomfortable aggression from Jacob, perhaps a sexual aggression. Neither the camcorder or digital audio recorder picked up any evp (electronic voice phenomena) from Jacob at first, but a later whisper saying "...I want you" may be Jacob's doing.

Inside the storeroom, Crystal reportedly sensed a teenaged boy named Jeremy. Jeremy died in the mid 1800s, and believed he was trapped in this room. He was drafted into the civil war, but his mother did not want him to go. Jeremy hung himself, but believed the suicide was unsuccessful... and that he was still alive.  As Jeff filmed Crystal in this room, a small, bright orb flashed once in front of her... this filmed anomally could have a natural explanation, however. One vague and subtle evp was recorded in this room, where the spirit called Jeremy seems to say "...tell him."
The Spencer House was not in existence in the mid 1800s, but it's possible that Jeremy is associated with a prior residence, or nearby property. Perhaps "Jeremy" is a deceptive spirit, possibly a demonic spirit. Crystal reported that the spirit scratched at the walls. When Jeff offered a prayer for Jeremy, Crystal reported that the spirit began screaming.

Inside the office with a file cabinet, Crystal reported two spirits who worked at the radio station in it's early days... named "Sally" and "Mitch." Sally reportedly knew she was dead, but still continued to work at the station. Jeff and Crystal were unable to connect these names to the WHCN or WCCC staffing of that era.  When asked if Sally liked any of the Disc Jockeys, she said she liked Picozzi. Michael Picozzi is the Program Director and Operations Manager at WCCC, and is a famous DJ in CT, having worked at both WCCC and WHCN.

Not long after the "Sally session," the digital audio recorder held by Crystal picked up the strongest evp of the evening. It's a clear whisper, that says "Check out the portico." "Portico" is an Italian- architectural term, a word Jeff hasn't heard since his college days. Crystal was also vague about the term, knowing it had something to do with the porch. Ironically, the State of CT Historical Commission document on the Spencer House specifically mentions the "small portico" supported by "simple columns."

On the main, three story stairwell, Crystal reportedly communicated with a spirit named "Margaret."  Margaret said she worked in one of the medical offices, and apparently had some guilt about a mishap involving a patient. Crystal was unable to determin what type of medical office she worked in. As Crystal repeatedly asked Margaret questions, a subtle evp seems to say "...you grow tiresome." Crystal asked Margaret if she was resposible for shifting the pictures featured on the main stairwell, and Margaret responded in the affirmative. It was also reported to Jeff  that many pictures on the two stairwells are often found askew. Margaret doesn't believe that pictures featuring rock stars are appropriate for a medical building.

Other evps captured during the investigation include a male whisper saying "...I'm in Hell," and a whisper answering "High above" (in response to Crystal asking "Where are you?") All in all, Jeff was surprised at the variety of evp phenomena captured this evening. None of these evps seem to be random radio transmissions, they are specific to the investigation. No visual phenomena was recorded that evening.

Jeff foolishly forgot to recite a binding prayer, as he and Crystal left the investigation. AsJeff entered his vehicle in the parking lot, he heard a loud, breathy sigh come from his back seat. It's at this time Jeff recited the prayer, for both he and Crystal.

On October 28th, The WCCC Morning crew with Raven, Mattly Crue, and Sinna Min interviewed Jeff and Scott Messenger, concerning previous Shekinah Paranormal Investigations. Then on Halloween morning, the morning crew interviewed Jeff and Crystal Pavis concerning what they found at WCCC. Both interviews were highlighted by Raven's humor, and were great experiences.

Unfortunately, a historic snowstorm in Connecticut that weekend caused unprecedented tree damage, and plunged much of the state in darkness for a week or more. As a result, Halloween and all the media involving spooky issues took a backseat to the miserable power outages. For several days, gasoline was even hard to come by.

Shekinah Paranormal extends many thanks to Crystal Pavis, Carissa Lozinski, and the entire staff at WCCC for this unique and fascinating investigation.
